The report covers a wide range of problems of the formation of historical science in the institutions of NAS of Ukraine during the century-long history of the Academy. The formation in the Academy of powerful scholarly schools in the field of historical science, based on the achievements of many generations of scholar-historians in the study and comprehension of the historical experience of the Ukrainian people, its state and cultural traditions is considered. The significant contribution of academic historians to the development of a new conceptual understanding of Ukrainian history and its inclusion in the broad European and international cultural and civilization context is noted. Particular attention is paid to the problems and challenges arising from the preparation of a large-scale scientific and publishing project of multi-volume history of Ukraine.
